Hello Angel Faces!! So lets get real…there are tons and tons of makeup looks and tutorials out there. Especially looks for special occasions. And although they are all gorgeous and unique, they aren’t always the most manageable. When you don’t have the products someone is using or maybe not as much experience as someone else it easily becomes a hassle. I created this look specifically for New Years Eve. I didn’t add glitter or mink lashes (and if you would like to add those things, that is TOTALLY up to you! Because I actually enjoy both) 😉 BUT this is going to be more on the Basic 101 side of makeup looks. Although this look is easier for a few, I know it may also be more advanced for some, therefore I have added a few tips that I hope will help the ones in need of an extra hand. I will also not be listing any specific products till the very end! There are A LOT of different brands, drug store and high end, that can be switched in and out for this look..I don’t want someone thinking they have to have these products to create it. Although I’ll be giving guidance on how to achieve this look, this is in no way a full tutorial. With that said…Ill begin! 🙂
I honestly applied my face makeup and brows as I normally do, with maybe a little more heavy hand on the bronzer and highlight. (later on I might do a foundation routine but I am going to focus on eyes and lips for the particular look)
Before I started on ANYTHING having to do with my eyes I took a kabuki brush (a big fluffy brush) and applied baby powder heavily below my eyes. This will allow any fall out from your eye shadow to be caught and easily swept away. No dark spots!! Once that is done you can go ahead and apply your eye primer. After that you can apply any CREAM base color all over the lid. Then you can take a GOLD eye shadow and apply it to the middle of your lid to the outer crease.
TIP: When applying shimmery/metallic shades it helps to use a method called “foiling”. To do this you take any setting spray (Mac Fix+, NYX Dewy Finish, Urban Decay All Nighter, etc) and spray it directly on the brush with the eye shadow on it. This helps create a more dramatic look, keeps from causing fallout, AND helps it stay longer) You then will pat the eye shadow on, instead of sweeping it a crossed your lid.
After the gold is placed you can take a DARK BROWN color and apply it to your outer eyelid, then up and around your crease. Blending in between applications is a must! Apply the dark brown then blend. Keep doing this until you get your desired darkness. If any of the dark eye shadow falls below your eyes, don’t worry. Once the baby powder is swept away, it will be too!
Then you take a NUDE or light shade that matches your skin tone and blend out the harsh edges of the darker color right below your brow bone. Once you have blended it out, take a WHITE or light shade and apply it directly below your brow to highlight.
The last step for the shadow on your lid is to take a LIGHTER GOLD than the one in the middle and place it at the front of your eye. When applying this color, use the foiling method as well.
To finish off the shadow take the dark brown you used and line your bottom lash line, then put the lighter gold color at the front of your lash line as well.
Before the next step you can brush away the baby powder! 🙂
TIP: After brushing away the baby powder I like to take a concealer and clean up the edges of the eye shadow, making it more dramatic and precise.
To finish the eyes you can make a dramatic or simple cat eye, then apply your favorite pair of lashes! OR DON’T! If you aren’t a lash type of person, a few coats of mascara will do the trick.
For the lips I picked a BRIGHT RED lip color. You can line your lips with any basic lip pencil and then apply your lipstick.
TIP: For New Years Eve I thought it was especially important to wear a MATTE color lipstick. This helps with less transfer, so when you are doing your kiss at midnight..your makeup doesn’t get all over the place! 😉
That was really it for the makeup. I did spray my face with a setting spray at the very end to assure that everything stayed nicely done through out the night.
TIP: For hair I actually wore it in a bun all day then took it down at night. I then parted it on the opposite side to create more volume. Lastly, I added my 18″ extensions for a little more drama. You can kind of see the difference in the length of hair in the comparison shots below.
With Extensions——————————————————————-with Out! 🙂
